Zinedine Zidane has published his 19-man squad for Thursday’s CopaDelRey quarter-final game against Real Sociedad, and once again the Madrid’s manager didn’t want to risk the belgian, Eden Hazard whom is recovered from the injury he took in the Champions League Group Stage against PSG from his national teammate, Thomas Meunier. It has been 72 days since Hazard’s injury and now he is recovered and completed three complete training sessions with the squad.
He hasn’t played any games since his recovery but he might get some minutes against Osasuna in the weekend.
Eden’s goal is to be at 100% against Manchester City in the Champions League play offs.
Together with Hazard also Gareth Bale, Casemiro, Dani Carvajal, Lucas Vasquez, Asensio and Mariano Diaz have been left out.
Dani Carvajal is missing due to a knock he received by Felipe in the derby, Casemiro got a flu, Mariano & Asensio not at their 100%, Bale and Vasquez left out due to unknown reasons.
Counting on Carvajal’s & Casemiro’s absences as two of the most decisive players for Real, it’s gonna be very tough for them.
Most likely Zidane will start with Nacho as Carvajal’s substitute and Valverde as Casemiro’s.
Nacho proved Zidane that he can cover pretty well Carvajal’s position, as he replaced Dani against Real Valladollid due to cards suspension, also securing the win with the only goal he scored in 78 min.
Here you have Real Madrid’s full 19-man squad:
Goalies: Alphonse Areola, Thibaut Courtois & Diego Altube;
Defenders: Eder Militao, Sergio Ramos, Raphaël Varane, Nacho, Marcelo & Ferland Mendy;
Midfielders: Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Fede Valverde, James Rodriguez & Isco Alarcon;
Forwards: Karim Benzema, Luka Jovic, Brahim Diaz, Vinicius Junior & Rodrygo Goes.
Our Line-up prediction:
From all the available 24 games, Eden Hazard started 16 of them, was substituted two times, was benched three times and missed seventeen games due to his injuries.
E. Hazard took five different injuries since his arrival from Chelsea. He took a hamstring injury in his 5th match for Madrid, where he missed two games, to be continued with fissure of the fibula injury (also missed two games), than the hairline crack in the foot, which caused him a 4 month pause. He did also operate his foot in order to not have further injuries there, as he injured that area in his time in Chelsea and the medics found more reasonable to operate him.
These injuries really did effect his play in Madrid and his career. He was able to find his rhythm with Madrid in the middle of the season but the injury he took against Paris saint German slowed him down and he never was able to show his full potential since then.
The outstanding form of Vinicius also made things harder for Hazard to get his minutes, as the last matches were decisive for the La Liga title and Zinedine Zidane could not risk it in order to let Hazard play more to get his form as soon as possible.
Hazard admitted this wasn’t his best season even saying that was his worst season in his career, but he was happy they won the Spanish title and he is hoping for a better form next season.
The Champions League return leg against Manchester City will take place on the 7th of August and we will see if Zidane will put Hazard or Vinicius as a left wing.
