Madrid’s & Barca’s shocking disqualification from Copa del Rey

Copa del Rey 2019/20 has brought us the most shocking qualifications in its history.

Firstly in 1/16, starting with the Segunda Division B team, Leonesa beating Atletico Madrid 2-1 after extra time, LaLiga2 team, Mirandes taking LaLiga team, Celta de Vigo and even Barcelona barely won over another Segunda Division B team, Ibiza, with the late goal of Antoine Griezmann in injury time.The new format of Copa del Rey is giving the small teams big chances for qualifying in the next round. The format obligates the favorite team to play in the less-favorite team’s field, with no second leg played.

This is quite a big disadvantage for big teams, not only because they don’t have the fans’ support, but most likely they will play in some fields with not very good conditions, this was proven in the match b/w Unionistas vs Real Madrid, when Los Blancos obviously suffered the bad pitch even though they succeeded to win. But in 1/8 the hosting teams were chosen by draw. The surprises didn’t stop neither in 1/8, where Sevilla was taken down by Mirandes, nor in quarted-finals when the two best teams, Real Madrid and Barcelona disqualified by Real Sociedad reciprocally Athletic Bilbao.

The big burden Real Madrid and FC Barcelona has made things easier for Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao.
The two best teams (RMA and FCB) has to play in the Champions League also in the spanish league, La Liga.
It is obvious they have many players, counting on the team’s youths, but they seem to underestimate the 2nd and 3rd division teams, as they could barely win against Unionistas (Real Madrid) and Ibiza FC (Barcelona).

Mirandes continued making history and once again qualified beating Villareal. The four quarter-finalists are :

– Mirandes;

– Real Sociedad;

– Athletic Bilbao;

– Granada.

The two semi-finals will be : Real Sociedad vs Mirandes & Athletic Bilbao vs Granada.
The data will be chosen later on.

The competition Top Scorers until now are:

So Athletic Bilbao succeeded to advance in the final when they face Real Sociedad.

In the other hand the other finalist is Real Sociedad, beating Mirandes in the both legs with an aggregate result of 3 – 1.
Real Sociedad won the first leg against Mirandes at home (Reale Seguros Stadium) with a result of two – one, goals scored by Mikel Oyarzabal by the penalty caused by Odei Onaindia and the loanee Martin Odeegard, meanwhile the only goal for Mirandes was scored by Matheus Aias.

The final was supposed to take place on 18th of April 2020 but due to the coronavirus outbreak this date has been delayed for an unspecified date till the next announcement.
La Liga has restarted so it is possible that the announcement will be official in the next weeks.
The final will most likely be played with no fans, by the order of the spanish health department, however spanish federation accorded that there will be auto fans audio so the match will feel more real.
The final favorites is without a doubt, Real Sociedad, as they indicated how good they are beating Real Madrid, the main competitors in this competition, and also their league standing, where they hold the 4th place.

This the first time since 2004 where the three top teams (Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid) did not reach the final.
The new format of Copa del Rey did really affect the big teams as they were forced to play in the less favorite team’s field, even if the field had bad conditions.
Big team’s players are used to play in good grass, in front of their fans, so the bad fields did really bring something we never experienced before.

With the equalizer of FC Barcelona against Sevilla FC the title race is still open. Real Madrid will face Real Sociedad on 21st of June, Sunday at 21ct, if they succeed they will tie Barcelona with points, but will remain at first position from the direct play against FCB (1 win and 1 draw).
There are eight matches remaining until the end of the season and it seems like Real Madrid has an easier calendar than FC Barcelona.
FC Barcelona will play Athletic Bilbao Club on 23rd of June, than Celta de Vigo on the 27th, Atletico Madrid on 1st of July, Villareal on the 5th, Espanyol on the 8th, Valladolid 12nd, Osasuna 15th and the last match they will play against Alaves on the 19th of July.
In the other hand Real Madrid will play versus Real Sociedad on 21st of June, than versus Mallorca on 24th of June, Espanyol on 28th, Getafe on 1st of July, Athletic Bilbao Club on 5th of July, Alaves on the 8th, Granada on the 12th, Villareal on the 15th and Leganes on the 19th of July.
If they win against Real Sociedad they will take the first position from Barcelona.
It will be a very tough race between these two teams for the La Liga title till the end.

If we calculate the possibility, Real Madrid has better odds as they have two hard games (Real Sociedad and Athletic Club) meanwhile FC Barcelona has three hard matches remain (Athletic Club, Atletico Madrid and Villareal).
